Call for Nominations
NOMINATIONS FOR 2012 FACULTY RESEARCH LECTURER
The Committee on Faculty Research Lecturer invites nominations for this award, the highest honor that the Academic Senate can bestow upon one of its members. Members of the Committee encourage you to be proactive by nominating a campus colleague who has a distinguished record of research accomplishments. We are also making a similar request of Department Chairs, Program Chairs, and College Deans, with whom you might wish to consult about possible nominations. These administrators can be sources of the detailed information required for a nomination package (see below). Please keep in mind that all nominations must be treated as confidential throughout the nomination and selection process. The Committee must receive your nominations by Friday, January 30, 2012, in order that there is sufficient time to secure outside letters. For each nomination, the Committee needs the following materials:
- The name and department or program affiliation of the nominee
- A current vita, which includes information about:
- scholarly publications
- extramural research grants (in relevant disciplines)
- fellowship, awards, honors, and marks of academic distinction
- scholarly activities, presentations, editorships, performances, shows, and other indicators of visibility in a particular field
- A statement from you that outlines why this candidate should be considered for Faculty Research Lecturer. If you are forwarding a nomination made by a member of the faculty, please make sure that this statement of support is complete, as it will be important in the preliminary stages of the Committee’s deliberations.
- A list of names, affiliations, and email addresses of references whom the Committee can contact for evaluations. This list should include scholars of distinction in institutions of distinction in the nominee’s field. In addition to relevant University of California scholars, nationally and internationally distinguished figures in the nominee’s field should also be included in this list of referees. Since these letters are extremely important, the list of potential evaluators should be carefully chosen.
- A comparison of the nominees, should you nominate more than one candidate from a particular department or program
You may have gone through this process in previous years, and may wish to nominate the same individual. Even if you nominated a person last year, and wish to do so again, please provide an updated statement and an updated bio-bibliography and a list of potential references. In this way, your nomination will be maximally competitive.
The members of the Committee on Faculty Research Lecturer note that there are very distinguished members of our faculty who have not received this award and who have not, in the recent past, been nominated. It is possible, too, that some of these individuals were nominated in the past in years when another distinguished researcher received the award. We encourage you to consider such individuals, and we welcome their nomination or re-nomination.
Thank you in advance for responding to this call for nominations. Please send all correspondence, marked “In Confidence,” to Brian A. Federici, in care of the Committee on Faculty Research Lecturer, Academic Senate Office, 231 University Office Building.
