[Report & Information] Report from the Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee on General Education (CCGE)

September 12, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

I’ve attached for your information the final report of the Senate-convened Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee on General Education (CCGE).  This report has been reviewed and accepted by the Academic Senate Executive Council. The CCGE began their work in Spring 2024 at the request and charge of then Senate Chair Sang-Hee Lee. Prior to this in 2006 to 2009 and 2019 to 2021, UCR engaged in work around clarifying undergraduate general education via the Ad Hoc General Education Reform Committee and the Ad Hoc General Education Review Committee. On behalf of Senate leadership, I extend sincere gratitude to our colleagues for their engagement and commitment to this effort.

Keeping up momentum and looking ahead to Fall 2025, the Senate will begin the work of moving forward with the recommendations in the report.

With the initiative of the Committee on Educational Policy, a first order of business will be the enactment of the recommended learning outcomes for general education in UCR’s Catalog (Appendix C) by the Division.  I anticipate that this catalog change will be included on the Fall Division meeting agenda.

Regards,

Ken Barish, Chair

Academic Senate
